Bijl Architecture provided design, documentation and advisory services to the Australian Foundation for Disability (AFFORD) for their e-Cycle IT Resource and Recovery Centre e-waste recycling facility.

Located in Campbelltown, NSW, the 6,500sqm state of the art facility processes more than 2500 tonnes of electronic waste a month, including televisions, remote controls and computer hard drives.

As e-Cycle IT employs around 20 disabled persons at the Centre, significant alterations and refurbishments were required to the existing industrial building to accommodate the various needs of the occupants with respect to workspaces, training rooms, amenities and accessibility, particularly given the nature of the tasks carried out on site. Other compliance upgrades and exterior and interior alterations to improve the building were also required to be integrated with the main scope of works.
