The changing needs of a growing family, and how Bijl has responded to the shift in these requirements, has provided the momentum for this new family home in Chatswood.
When the clients first engaged Bijl Architecture seven years ago with early ideas of renovating their bungalow, they planned for modest alterations and a small addition over one level. Since that time the family has grown and, with that, the plans for the home. With a second child now in the mix, the updated design heroes flexible, adjoining living spaces. What might work as a playroom and adjoining parents’ retreat now, could also cater for separate media viewing or an expanded entertaining zone for guests – now and in the future.
Bijl Director, Melonie Bayl-Smith, has enjoyed the evolution of this project. “Architecture is not just about one solution,” she says. “What we have loved about working with these clients has been listening to and responding to their changing needs, and building in functionality that will support them into the future.”
Langridge Constructions (our builders for Burrawong House) are bringing the second storey to life, positioning sleeping quarters in the treetops under a sheltered room form wrapping over the home. Steel framing is also up on the much-anticipated double-height void entry. Canopy House is anticipated for completion in spring 2018.
