We love to see our designs expressed to their full potential, and we know this relies on robust and likeminded partnerships. On Doorzien House, we began what is now a solid working relationship with Skope Constructions, and partnered once again with Cantilever Consulting Engineers, (who, we are thrilled to report, returned for more engineering complexity at the neighbouring Zuster House). We are proud to stand alongside such high calibre specialists on this project; the project has recently been shortlisted for the Master Builders Association of New South Wales 2018 Excellence in Housing Awards.
The awards judging panel visited the Kirribilli home in early July, where the finished product was inspected against criteria such as quality of construction, design challenges, use of materials, value for money and innovation.
Heritage constraints and a high degree of difficulty in breaking through heavy sandstone foundations meant the site attracted a good number of architecture, engineering and construction students during the building phase. We think the project team’s painstaking efforts from soil samples through to the finest of finished detailing makes this a worthy candidate for the September awards.
